How the WDWActiveCrime Bot Works

This page shows the current operational status of the automated system that powers WDWActiveCrime. Below is a high-level overview of how publicly available information is monitored and presented on this site.

System overview showing how public OCSO call data is monitored, organized, and displayed as maps and reports on WDWActiveCrime.

The WDWActiveCrime bot is a custom-built automated system consisting of several thousand lines of original code. It monitors publicly available Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) call activity at regular intervals and detects new entries as they appear.

When a qualifying call is detected, the system organizes the information by location, time, and general call type. This structured data powers the live map, reports, and historical summaries available throughout the site.

No private systems are accessed, no personal information is collected, and no individuals are identified. All data reflects initial dispatch information only and may change as calls are resolved or reclassified by law enforcement.

Transparency & How Our System Works

WDWActiveCrime is powered by a custom-built automated monitoring system designed to responsibly track publicly available Orange County Sheriff’s Office call activity in the Walt Disney World area.

This system was developed specifically for this site and consists of several thousand lines of original code written to collect, organize, and present public safety information in a clear and factual way.

What Makes This Different

Unlike simple data reposting, our system:

  • Continuously monitors public call data at regular intervals
  • Detects new activity without repeatedly reloading or stressing official servers
  • Filters and organizes calls by location, date, and type
  • Powers live maps, historical reports, and trend summaries on this website

All processing is automated, but every presentation layer (maps, reports, articles) is custom-built for clarity and context.

By the Numbers

  • 3,000+ lines of original Python code
  • 24/7 automated monitoring with built-in stability and error recovery
  • Thousands of calls logged and categorized across multiple months
  • Hundreds of unique locations mapped and normalized
  • Daily, monthly, and historical reports generated directly from the data

This infrastructure exists to ensure reliability, accuracy, and consistency — not speed for speed’s sake.

Responsible Data Use

WDWActiveCrime:

  • Uses only publicly released information
  • Does not access private or restricted systems
  • Does not collect personal or identifying data
  • Does not name individuals or speculate on outcomes

All call information reflects initial dispatch data only and may be updated, resolved, or reclassified by law enforcement after publication.

Purpose & Editorial Approach

The purpose of WDWActiveCrime is situational awareness and transparency, not sensationalism. By organizing public data into readable formats, the site helps visitors understand broader safety patterns around Walt Disney World over time.

This project is independently operated and is not affiliated with Disney or any law-enforcement agency.
