🚨 EPCOT Arrest Guest accused of grabbing & shaking a Cast Member during an Encanto meet-and-greet
-Disney's EPCOT
A routine character interaction at Walt Disney World turned into a law enforcement incident on April 21, 2026, when a guest allegedly became aggressive toward a Cast Member.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to EPCOT at approximately 3:14 PM for a reported battery involving a Disney employee working as a Character Assistant in the Encanto meet-and-greet area.
The Cast Member, was assisting the character Mirabel when a family attempted to approach out of turn. The situation escalated after the employee instructed them to wait until the current interaction was finished.
The report states that the child attempted to run up to the character multiple times, prompting the Cast Member to intervene and reiterate the rules. During the interaction, the child’s mother allegedly became confrontational, placing an autograph book in the Cast Member’s face despite being told that only photos were being offered at that time.
Moments later, the father, identified as Diego, allegedly escalated the situation further.
According to the victim’s sworn statement, Rodriguez:
- Grabbed her right arm
- Shook her
- Yelled at her over access to the character
Witnesses, including the performer portraying Mirabel, corroborated the account, stating the male guest was shouting and aggressively confronting the Cast Member before physically grabbing her.
Another Cast Member on scene also described the guest as:
- Yelling about fairness (“Why everyone can take a picture but us”)
- Making aggressive movements toward the victim
- Attempting to lunge in her direction before intervention
Disney Security quickly responded and escorted the guest and his family to a security office for deputies.
🚔 Arrest Details
- Charge: Battery
- Location: 200 EPCOT Center Drive
- Outcome: Arrested and transported to Orange County Jail
- Additional Action: Permanently trespassed from all Walt Disney World property

Rodriguez invoked his right to an attorney and did not provide a statement to deputies.
⚠️ Safety & Context
This incident highlights a recurring issue at high-demand character meet-and-greets:
- Cast Members act as protective buffers for performers, especially face characters
- They enforce structured interaction rules to maintain safety and fairness
- Physical contact with Cast Members, especially in frustration, is treated as a criminal offense, not just a policy violation
Disney’s use of immediate trespass authority means incidents like this often result in lifetime bans, regardless of criminal case outcomes.
