Cabana Clash at Disney-Area Resort Leads to Arrest for Domestic Battery

From floaties to fisticuffs 💦👊 | A couple at the Swan Hotel turned their pool cabana into a political boxing ring after an alcohol-fueled argument.

Cabana Clash at Disney-Area Resort Leads to Arrest for Domestic Battery November 8th, 2025 – Bay Lake, FL A peaceful pool day at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel took a violent turn Saturday evening when a couple’s alcohol-fueled argument ended in an arrest for domestic battery.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the resort at approximately 5:53 p.m. following reports of a disturbance at a private pool cabana. Upon arrival, Deputy Passarella located Christopher Pendergrass, who stated that he and his girlfriend of four years, Vanessa, had spent the day drinking and relaxing by the pool. Pendergrass estimated consuming eight to nine beers before an argument broke out between the two.

When deputies made contact with Vanessa inside her hotel room, she provided a different account, telling investigators that the dispute began around 4:00 p.m. over politics and the recent passing of her father. During the argument, she alleged that Pendergrass punched her twice in the face with a closed fist. Vanessa told deputies she struck back in self-defense before Pendergrass left the pool area.

Deputies documented visible redness and swelling to the left side of Vanessa’s face. She declined medical treatment but allowed photographs to be taken of her injuries. Vanessa also disclosed that Pendergrass had been physical with her in the past, though no prior incidents were reported.

Despite the visible injuries, Vanessa stated she did not wish to pursue charges or testify. However, based on the evidence and witness statements, deputies determined that probable cause existed to charge Pendergrass with Battery (Dating Violence) under Florida Statute 784.03-15.
