Fire Reported at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on Opening Day at Magic Kingdom

🔥 Fire at Big Thunder Mountain — Magic Kingdom response, ride temporarily closed.

BAY LAKE, Fla. — A fire response was triggered at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom on the evening of May 3, 2026, prompting a temporary ride closure during what appeared to be a high-attendance day at the park.

According to a real-time alert from WDW Active Crime’s monitoring system, Orange County emergency services were dispatched at approximately 5:46 p.m. to the Magic Kingdom / Contemporary Resort area for a reported fire.

Ride Impacted

At the same time as the dispatch, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was marked as “temporarily closed” in the My Disney Experience system, indicating a likely operational impact tied to the incident.

While Disney has not publicly confirmed the exact cause or location of the fire, the timing strongly suggests the response occurred in or near the Frontierland area, where the attraction is located.

Emergency Response in Disney “Backstage” Zones

Fire-related calls inside Walt Disney World are typically handled by the Reedy Creek / Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Fire Department, often working in coordination with Disney’s internal safety teams and operations managers.

These incidents are frequently contained quickly and may occur in backstage or utility areas, which are not visible to guests but still require a full emergency response.

No Immediate Reports of Injuries

At this time, there are no confirmed reports of injuries associated with the incident. It is also unclear whether guests were evacuated from the attraction or surrounding areas as a precaution.

What Guests May Have Seen

Guests in the area may have noticed:

  • Sudden ride downtime
  • Emergency vehicle movement near backstage access roads
  • Temporary operational pauses in Frontierland

Disney is known for rapidly restoring normal operations once a scene is secured and deemed safe.

Guest Safety Note

If you’re visiting the parks and notice emergency activity:

  • Follow all Cast Member instructions immediately
  • Avoid restricted or blocked-off areas
  • Expect temporary ride closures or delays
