Shoplifting arrest at Epic Universe turns into something more 👀 A woman accused of stealing $361 in merchandise was arrested, see what Deputies found.
ORLANDO, Fla. — A shoplifting investigation at Epic Universe escalated into additional felony charges after deputies discovered heroin during a search incident to arrest, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Retail Theft Inside Nintendo Store
According to investigators, the incident occurred on April 19, 2026, inside the Super Nintendo-themed retail location at Epic Universe.
A loss prevention officer reported observing a female guest remove merchandise, including a Mario plush, from a display and place it inside a stroller. The subject then exited the store without attempting to pay, passing all points of sale.
Security made contact with the woman outside the store near the attraction area, where she turned over the item and was escorted without incident.
During the investigation, the subject admitted to not paying for multiple items found in her possession. The total value of the recovered merchandise was later updated to $361.99, including themed apparel, toys, and accessories.
All items were recovered by Universal security.
Claim Involving Child Behavior
According to the arrest report, the woman told investigators she did not realize some of the items had been placed in the stroller, stating her autistic child had grabbed merchandise while inside the store. She also claimed she unintentionally walked out with additional items.
Despite the explanation, deputies determined probable cause for petit theft and placed her under arrest. She was also issued a trespass warning, barring her from returning to Universal Orlando property.
Search Incident to Arrest Reveals Narcotics
During a search incident to arrest, deputies discovered a small clear baggie containing a brown powdery substance concealed along with U.S. currency.
The subject initially told deputies she had approximately $15 on her, but during the count, the baggie was located. A field test conducted on the substance returned a presumptive positive for heroin, according to the report.
She was subsequently charged with possession of heroin in addition to the theft charge.
Transport to Jail
The subject was transported to the Orange County Jail without incident. Body-worn cameras were active during the investigation.
Charges Filed
- Petit Theft (Retail)
- Possession of Heroin
Guest Safety / Operational Note
This case highlights a common escalation point in theme park enforcement: what begins as a retail theft investigation can quickly expand into more serious criminal charges once law enforcement becomes involved. Universal security (similar to Disney Investigations) routinely detains and transfers suspects to deputies, where full searches and criminal processing occur.
