Steakhouse 71 Seating Dispute Ends With Alleged Attack on Two Disney Cast Member Managers

🚨 A guest was arrested at Disney’s Contemporary Resort after deputies say she battered two Disney Cast Member managers during a disturbance inside Steakhouse 71.

A guest was arrested at Disney’s Contemporary Resort after deputies say she allegedly battered two Disney Cast Member managers, threw multiple cups of water during an outburst inside Steakhouse 71, and ripped a Duty Manager’s Disney name tag from his suit jacket during the confrontation.

According to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, the incident happened on May 19, 2026, inside Steakhouse 71 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort located at 4600 North World Drive.

Deputies identified the primary victim a Disney Duty Manager, who told investigators the incident began after Leslie Helen Varley became upset over seating arrangements involving her large party.

Duty Manager told deputies Varley allegedly became “irate” and threw three cups filled with water and ice at him. According to the report, all three cups struck the front of his body.

Investigators say the situation escalated further when Varley allegedly approached the Duty Manager and forcibly removed his Disney name tag from the left side of his suit jacket before walking away with it. He reportedly followed her toward the front desk in an attempt to retrieve the name tag.

Deputies also say four glasses were broken during the disturbance, causing approximately $20 in damage to Disney property.

A second Disney cast member Manager, told deputies she was managing Steakhouse 71 during the incident and had initially attempted to assist the guest’s party regarding seating concerns.

According to Steakhouse 71 Manager's sworn statement, the interaction became hostile after the group was informed tables could not be moved together. She alleged Varley then grabbed her by both shoulders and physically moved her approximately six steps.

Steakhouse 71 Manager told investigators she then saw Varley allegedly grab the Duty Manager’s name tag and throw water at him while several glasses shattered during the confrontation.

Neither cast member reported visible injuries, and both declined medical treatment at the scene. Both also invoked Marsy’s Law protections, according to the report.

Deputies later interviewed Varley, who admitted she became upset after allegedly hearing comments involving her disabled daughter interacting with a cast member. According to the arrest report, Varley admitted she threw water at the Duty Manager and grabbed his Disney name tag because she wanted to identify him to file a complaint.

The report states Varley acknowledged the Duty Manager did not give her permission to remove the name tag.

Deputies ultimately charged Leslie Helen Varley with:

  • Two counts of battery
  • Robbery by sudden snatching
  • Criminal mischief under $200

Varley was also issued a trespass warning from Walt Disney World property. Deputies advised her she could be arrested for trespassing if she returned.

The incident highlights the difficult situations Disney cast member leaders and managers can face while handling guest disputes at Walt Disney World resorts and restaurants, particularly during large-party dining conflicts.
